This is a video made to simply tell a story. Prior to this project, I was unfamiliar with animated video creation platforms. It took me around 7 hours to create the final project.
I have decided to create an animated video for my story project. When planning for this project, I was unsure of a topic. I knew that I wanted something that meant something to me and that was relevant. With those two thoughts in mind, I decided I would create the video on the topic of College Rape Culture. As a college student, I am fully aware of the issues and impacts rape can have in this community. It is an issue which is more prevalent than ever, with campaigns such as #MeToo and It’s On Us.
Rape is an issue which I spent much time trying to end. While it never will, I hope that someone will watch this video and take action by getting help or working to spread the importance of consent.
My video follows the lives of Amanda and John, two college students. It follows them through the best and worst time of their lives. I feel that showing their acceptance and family brought the topic and scene closer to home. In the video, you will see that I have many aspects of storytelling. I have setting: college campus, rising action: the moments leading up to their sexual assaults, climax: sexual assaults, falling action: what they did after the incident, and ending: how they dealt with their incident.
The characters are relatable because they are students, just like you and I. They are away from their family and deal with an incident which is real. I have tried to show real life situations, including the thoughts and feelings and text messages, which gives the characters dimension.
The technological aspect, video, of this project brings a more interactive aspect. I felt that if I were to do this on Instagram or Twitter using just images and text, it might not have as much influence. I hope that this video will help give a real life scenario.
